Long-Distance
Manhattan to Hamptons Sprinter Van: The Complete NYC Operator Guide
Everything we've learned about running sprinter vans from Manhattan to the Hamptons — pricing, Friday traffic, the LIE vs. Montauk Highway, and when to leave.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Hamptons route is our most-booked weekend long-distance sprinter run. Here's everything we've learned — pricing, traffic, scheduling, and the small operational details that make or break a summer Friday.
Pricing
A one-way Mercedes Sprinter flat rate from Manhattan to the Hamptons is $1,200. That covers 10-14 passengers, 14 bags of luggage, chauffeur, fuel, standard tolls, Wi-Fi, water, and 20% gratuity. Round-trip bookings are the same $1,200 per leg — we don't discount the return, but we hold the same chauffeur over the weekend when possible. Full-weekend contracts (Friday out, Sunday return, with weekend-based rides) are quoted on request.
When to leave
The Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) is the bottleneck. Friday afternoon outbound is the worst window in Northeast traffic — 3 PM to 8 PM regularly stretches a 2-hour trip into 4. Our most popular Friday pickup time is 11 AM or 12 PM; the second most popular is 8 PM, after the worst of rush has cleared. Saturday outbound is dramatically easier (typical 2-2.5 hours), and Sunday returns hit peak congestion 2-7 PM.
The LIE vs. Sunrise Highway (27)
For destinations in the South Fork (Southampton, East Hampton, Sag Harbor), Sunrise Highway (NY-27) is often faster than the LIE east of Exit 70 during peak Friday. Our chauffeurs track both and make the call based on live conditions — sometimes cutting south to 27 at Riverhead saves 25-40 minutes. For Montauk, the difference can be larger during a Friday jam. For North Fork destinations, we stay on the LIE to Exit 73 and take 58 east.
What to pack for a sprinter weekend
The standard Mercedes Sprinter has 45+ cubic feet of rear cargo with the back row folded. Twelve passengers with roller bags plus a few duffels fits comfortably. Golf bags: plan two per passenger if the group is going golf-heavy; tell dispatch and we'll run the Executive Sprinter which has slightly less passenger space but a dedicated cargo partition. Coolers for beach days are fine but skip the giant Yeti tundras — those live better in a follow-up Escalade.
Stops between Manhattan and the Hamptons
Most groups make one stop on the outbound — coffee and bathrooms. The best stops, in order: the Lobster Roll (NY-27 in Amagansett, permanent standby), Tate's Bake Shop (Southampton), or Modern Snack Bar (Aquebogue) for North Fork-adjacent destinations. Skip the standard LIE rest stops east of Exit 52 — they're overwhelmed on summer Fridays.
Bookings and cancellations
For any Memorial Day through Labor Day Friday outbound, book 2-4 weeks ahead. The week of July 4 and the weekends surrounding it are the highest-demand windows — we recommend 4-6 weeks. Cancellations inside 24 hours charge 100% on Mercedes Sprinter bookings; reschedules within the same calendar month are always free. Weekend-long contracts carry a 72-hour cancellation window.
